SOKAPU YOUTH WING REJECT CONDUCTING AN ELECTION


The Southern Kaduna People's Union (SOKAPU) Youth Wing has made it clear that they won't be holding new elections, citing that their current leader, Barr. Maikano Jerry Mendos, was democratically elected on February 10, 2024, for a 4-year term. This election was conducted in accordance with SOKAPU's constitutional provisions, which required the outgoing president, Comrd John Isaac, to hold elections before his term ended.

The Youth Wing is also warning against a purported letter of dissolution dated September 24, 2024, allegedly issued by a sectional leader who lacks knowledge of SOKAPU's constitutional provisions, particularly Section 26. This section outlines the modalities for action in special circumstances and specifies who can take such actions.

According to Section 26 (v), no disciplinary measures can be taken against any member until a disciplinary committee is formed, and the member is given at least 7 days' written notice to appear before the committee. The notice must inform the member of the complaint or allegation against them, and they must be given the opportunity to answer and provide evidence in their defense.
None of this steps where taken and no disciplinary committee was formed rather an individual unilateral makes such promulgation in contrast to the constitutional provision which is in nullity and what the anonymous person are holding on to.

Maikano Jerry Mendos, the National Coordinator, emphasized that SOKAPU's constitution is supreme and binding on all members, and any actions contrary to its provisions are null and void. He urged members to maintain decorum and continue their lawful activities, reiterating that the Youth Wing has only one legitimate leadership, headed by himself.

It's worth noting that SOKAPU has experienced internal crises and leadership changes in the past and effort are been made to reconcile all pending issues within the union for effective delivery of the union objectives. However, the current Youth Wing leadership remains resolute in its stance against unnecessary elections.
