OBIDIENT YOUTHS IN IMO STATE ABANDONED LABOUR PARTY CANDIDATE, ATHAN ACHONU AND DECLARED SUPPORT FOR GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA.
After undertaken accounts of the massive youths empowerments and employments cross Imo state under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma in less than four years, Obidients in the state under the umbrella of 'Imo Obidient Youths' have thus abandoned the Labour Party candidate and pitch tent with the incumbent governor. This was made known by leaders of the Obidient followers who believes the good work the governor has done must continue. Beyond party politics, the group noted that the candidate of the Labour Party, Athan Achonu can wait till another election year to allow for the unprecedented growth and development Imo State is presently witnessing under governor Hope Uzodimma.
According to the Obidient followers, they revealed that their primary focus and goal in Imo State is to see a state that is working in term of infrastructural development, economic growth, security for all and welfare for people of the state across age groups. All these they believed Governor Hope Uzodimma has excellently delivered to the state and thus no need to truncate a working system all in the name of party politics. They alluded to the importance and sensitivity of the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in the state nothing that Imo State is already on the path of speedy growth and development hence, no sensible individual or group would want to stop this but to consolidate on the achievements.
The Coordinator of Imo Obidient Youths, Emeka Mandela while addressing the governor and other members of the group noted that they are supporting the governor because he has been a youth friendly governor adding that no governor in the history of Imo State has touched their lives directly like him. In his words, "we know our party has a candidate in the person of Athan Achonu but we are talking about the prosperity and destiny of the entire Imo state and not party politics. We have found a leader that has all the qualities we have been yarning for as youths in Imo state, then why should we leave reality and go back to promises which we are not sure would be fulfilled. We therefore call on Athan Achonu to understand that Imo State is larger than political party hence, he can come back in 2027 and not now"
In his response, the governor, Governor Hope Uzodimma appreciated the Obidents youths and assured them of more youths friendly policies if re-elected in November. He also called on the youths hiding in the bush to commit crimes to come out adding that the state will grant them amnesty and rehabilitate them with gainful employment.
