GINGER DISEASE: COMMISSIONER FOR AGRICULTURE AND HIS TEAM VISITS FARM LANDS, IN KACHIA, KAGARKO, JABA AND OTHERS.
Ginger farmers in Kaduna State are battling a disease outbreak that's destroying their farms. More than 2, 500 hectares of farms are already infected.
The Ministry contacted scientists at the Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR) ABU Zaria who have taken samples of infected plants and soil for analysis and result shown the disease is caused by fungal pathogens.
The Honourable Commissioner, Murtala Dabo, decided to go and see the affected farms and farmers himself. He and his team including Prof. Afiniki Zarafi of IAR visited 3 LGAs - Kachia, Jaba and Kagarko.
The Commissioner assured the farmers that the State Government will immediately provide intervention by distributing the agrochemicals recommended by scientists at IAR.
Villages such as Kuchiyo (Kachia), Kenyi (Kagarko) Kwoi and Dura (Jaba) were visited and the HC addressed cross-section of farmers and villagers there.
To access some of these farms the HC and his team had to board Kwale-Kwale (Canoe) and Okada (Bike). The farmers and villagers appreciated the compassion shown by the Government for not abandoning them at their time of need.
End.
